It is the holiday season, which makes it the perfect time of year to make some pajama pants for gifts! We have fabric for all the loved ones on your list, including NFL football fabric for the sports fans! NFL pajama pants are an easy hit every year. While you are at it, you will want to make a pair for yourself!
Choose from a full selection of NFL teams this year!
You will need:
- PJ pants for patterns
- Fabric for the new pajamas (NFL fleece fabric works great!)
- Newspaper or sturdy tissue paper
- Pencil
- Sewing machine
- Coordinating threads
- Scissors
- Elastic, ribbon or other type of tie for waist
What to do:
- Use pairs of existing pants to make a pattern (This is a great way to create multiple pairs of the “favorite” Pj’s).
- Newspaper or something similar works to draw the pattern. Simply lay the pants onto the paper and trace, adding an extra ¼” or ½” for seam allowance.
- Place pattern over fabric, pin around the edges and cut out carefully, going with the grain.
- Next, pin the fabric pieces together in preparation to sew.
- Begin with the smaller sections and stitch with a machine, working your way around both legs.
- For an elastic waist, fold down ¼” and iron down. For ½” non-roll elastic, fold over ¾”. Do not sew closed, as you will need to insert the elastic.
- Pull elastic through casting and finish with a zigzag stitch if your machine has the option.
- If you prefer, skip the elastic and use a ribbon or decorative sturdy string!
- Finish with a clean hem. With pants inside-out, roll edge to ¼” and iron flat. Roll it up an additional ¼” and sew.
