A fabric napkin adds an unexpected pop of color to any table setting, creating a more tactile experience for guests
You will need:
- Fabrics of choice. One 17” square makes a standard 16” fabric napkin
- Cotton quilting fabric
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Iron
- Coordinating thread (you may opt for a nice contrast if preferred. Example: Solid red fabric napkin with yellow thread lining)
- Pins
- Sewing machine
What to do:
- Cut out 17-inch squares of fabric. One square makes one napkin, so order fabric accordingly and cut out as many as you need.
- For each napkin, press ¼” to ½” down on all for corners. Double it to fold those edges down again and press an additional ¼”.
- Next, unfold the edges and trace a 45-degree angle from the lines
- Fold down and iron ¼” to ½” of this new corner and match sides.
- Follow old pressed lines and fold in edges. They should meet diagonally in the center. Press entire napkin and pin down the corners and edging
- Now stitch a professional hem around the entire napkin, removing the pins as you go.
- At each corner, lift the foot and turn fabric 90 degrees, continue to stitch down the side. This creates beautiful lines
- Make sure to backstitch at the beginning and end
- Now you have a neat set of fabric napkins that displays your unique personal style! You will be ready to go out and find or make additional items for the table!
