Be a Doll—Just Add Ruffles!

Transform your child’s doll bed with a ruffle underlay (or your child’s bed)! This easy kids fabric craft is adorable and could even be used for an adult bed if done tastefully. Begin by browsing our selection of fabric online and finish off with some trims, tassels and cording.

You will need:

  • 2-5 yards of ruffle fabric, depending on size of bed. Find fabric here
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Needle and thread or sewing machine
  • Ruler

Tip: Use elastic for a more non-permanent ruffle. This way it can be changed!

What to do:

  • Lay fabric out flat and gather with thread and needle into a circle similar to a tutu (see photo)
  • Measure fabric length to ensure it will just graze the floor after being attached to the bottom side of the bed
  • Use multiple colors for a spectacular princess style effect
  • Secure thread with a knot and begin gluing the fabric to the underside of the bed
  • Allow time for the glue to dry thoroughly before presenting it to your child. This is perhaps the most important step in the entire project for obvious reasons!
  • For bonus points, perhaps make a couple of cute outfits for your child’s dolly!
