It is back to school time once again, and that means supplies and storage! While there is likely to come a day when the pencil is completely erased by the computer in schools, they are still on the teacher’s list right now!
Sharpen your student’s pencil collection with this cute DIY roll up tote! Begin by selecting your fabric here!
You will need:
• An 18-20” wide place mat
• Fabric or fabrics (depending on how fancy you are feeling!)
• Ruler
• Washable marker or…pencil!
• String, ribbon or shoelace
What to do:
• Place the place mat face down and fold the right side over until it is about 2 inches from the left side. Pin it in place.
• Using the ruler and marker, draw parallel lines perpendicular to your fold. Leave about an inch between each line.
• Fold a shoelace, piece of ribbon or similar string in half and tuck its fold between the layers. This should be placed in the center of one of the sides of the mat.
• Decide how you want your fabric/fabrics arranged across the mat and sew up the sides. The tie will be sewn in along the parallel lines, so be mindful of this.
• Once you have sewn the fabric to the mat, it is time to roll it up and tie it!
• Now unroll it and fill it with pencils and pens and your child is ready for school in style!
