Ask Netfah: Recreating the ‘Muppet Dress’.

Dear Netfah,

My daughter was quite taken by the “Muppet dress” worn by Katy Perry last year. We have been searching for the dress, or the fabric so we could make the dress but to no avail. She is considering a novelty Beatles squares fabrics Yellow or Before the Wizard she saw on http://www.jofabrics.com/. This would be for a prom dress (short, party style, satin band trim). What are your thoughts?

Thanks so much

Dear Stephanie from Nova Scotia,

Thanks for your inquiry. It is a tough question because though I have seen the “muppet dress”, I am not sure on what type of fabric it is printed. The fabrics you are referring to on the website are more of a cotton novelty fabric and if your resources tell you that the dress was made of that type of fabric then it would work perfectly. Novelty fabrics can be used for anything from pillows, dresses, and shirts, to drapery, home accent pieces, and skirts. Finish it off with a hot satin belt, tie or bow, and you have got yourself one funky prom dress!
