Dear Netfah,
As a manufacturer of custom made banquet and commercial seating, I am required by law to upholster my chairs in material that meets fire code standards. Unfortunately more often than not, I run into the issue of trying to locate fabric that is already fire proof. And while some are flame retardant, regulations require flame resistancy. I have heard that there is a fire proofing spray that works on almost any fabric and meets code requirements. Do you have any recommendations?
Rob, New England-MA
Dear Rob,
Yes, there are several different companies that make fire proofing applications. What is great about these products are most are spray on applications and come with a certificate for you to have to show your local fire marshall. Another great thing about these fabric fire proofing applications is that you now choose any fabric and are not limited to fabrics that are already fire proofed. So now your fabric selection is now endless.
While I am not in a position to give a testimonial on any one company in particular, I can however, direct you to some sights from which to find several options for your finished goods is available. Most applications come with a certificate that you can proivide to your fire dept or coding marshall as proof of finishing.
