Sir Walter Raleigh wrote that "Time wears her not; she doth
his chariot guide; Mortality below her orb is placed". Thoreau thought her the
"mistress of the night". Sir Walter Scott described her as the "pale pilgrim of
the troubled sky".
What all of these famed poets were referring to was the moon.
Sir Philip Sidney described the moon thus:
"With how sad steps, O moon, thou climb’st the skies!
How silently, and with how wan a face!"
For as long as poets have sung, myriad attempts have been
made to describe the moon and its evanescent light. Crescent Moon fabric also
attempts to capture the curious appeal of the moon. This novelty quilting fabric
has a design consisting of pale crescent moons over a black background with
stars twinkling in the background. The crescent moons measure 3/4" in diamater
while the stars measure 1/4" across.
