"Free man, you will always cherish the sea!
The sea is your mirror; you contemplate your soul
In the infinite unrolling of its billows;
...
O eternal fighters, implacable brothers!"
- Charles Baudelaire Man and the Sea (translated by William Aggeler)
The words from this poem express the mysterious allure that
the sea holds for man. The often antagonistic relationship that has long existed
between man and the sea has inspired numerous poems, novels, paintings and many
other works of art.
This fascination with the sea in general- and its creatures
in particular- is also evident in fabric. Nowhere is this more noticeable than
in Water's Edge: Indigo. This is a delightful decorator fabric that will
compliment virtually any decorating project you have in mind. The design
consists of scallop, conch, mussel and other marine shells strewn over an
indigo background. The shells are white with French blue accents.
