Virginia Tech University made quite an odyssey through various conferences over the years before finally settling in as a member of the ACC in 2004. Already established as a major athletics university, the move also gave Virginia Tech a more prominent stage, especially in football.

The Virginia Tech Hokies' football program is what has brought the most prominence to the University. It has been coached since 1987 by Frank Beamer - the thirds winningest active coach in the NCAA. As of 2007, the Hokies under Beamer have compiled a record of 165-84-2 including a trip to the 1999 national championship game, 5 conference titles and 15 straight bowl game appearances.

Among the outstanding players to have worn Hokies uniforms are the following award winners:

Bronko Nagurski Trophy (Most outstanding defensive player adjudged by the membership of the Football Writers Association of America)

  • Corey Moore - 1999

Dave Rimington Trophy (Most outstanding center)

  • Jake Grove - 2003

Lombardi Award (Most outstanding lineman - defense or offense - or linebacker)

  • Corey Moore - 1999

Outland Trophy (Most outstanding interior lineman - offense or defense)

  • Bruce Smith - 1984

The Hokies have rivalries with various universities including Miami, Virginia and West Virginia. The winner of the annual game between Virginia Tech and Virginia is awarded the Commonwealth Cup. Virginia Tech currently leads the series 47-35-5.

The winner of the Virginia Tech versus West Virginia game was awarded the Black Diamond Trophy. The trophy was introduced in 1997 and was meant to symbolize the coal heritage of the Appalachian region. In the nine contested games in which the trophy has been awarded, Virginia Tech holds a 6-3 advantage over West Virginia. Overall, West Virginia holds a 28-22-1 record in games played between the two universities.

The design of the Virginia Tech Hokies Fleece: Allover is composed of the University's VT  and other logos, the HokieBird mascot and football helmets over an orange background.

The Virginia Tech Hokies Fleece: Allover fabric is not suitable for children's sleepwear. All patterns have been licensed by Virginia Tech University and are for individual consumption only. Any other use of this Virginia Tech Hokies Fleece: Allover college fabric is prohibited and illegal.
