The Charlotte Hornets were part of the wave of expansion
teams at the end of the 1980's in the NBA. Simultaneously, franchises were
awarded to Orlando, Miami and Minnesota.
The offense of the Hornets in those early years revolved
around Kelly Tripucka and Rex Chapman. After Tripucka retired and Chapman moved
on the offense became centered on Kendall Gill, Larry Johnson and Alonzo
Mourning.
The Hornets from the mid 1990's to the early 2000's; in the
12 years between 1993 and 2004 the Hornets made the playoffs 9 times. The teams
from these years were successful with lineups including Eddie Jones, Glen Rice,
Elden Campbell, Derrick Coleman, Jamal Mashburn and David Wesley.
