The Washington Wizards have play
The Washington Wizards have played under many different names
throughout their history. Some of their names have been:
Chicago Packers (1962)
Chicago Zephyrs (1963)
Baltimore Bullets (1964-1973)
Capital Bullets (1974)
Washington Bullets (1975-1997)
Washington Wizards (1998-today)
The 1970's can be considered the best years of the
franchise's history. In the 12 seasons between 1969 and 1980, the then
Baltimore/Capital/Washington Bullets made the playoffs each year. In this period
they made the NBA Finals four times and won once.
In 1971, the Bullets lost the Finals in 4 games to Kareem
Abdul-Jabbar, Oscar Robertson and the Milwaukee Bucks. In 1975, they lost in 4
games to the Golden State Warriors of Rick Barry and Jamal Wilkes. In 1978, led
by Elvin Hayes, Bob Dandridge and Wes Unseld, the Bullets defeated the Seattle
Supersonics of Gus Williams and Dennis Johnson. In 1979, they lost to the
Supersonics in 5 games.
As the Washington Bullets, the franchise experienced a sort
of renaissance in the 1980's, making the playoffs seven times in the decade. The
Bullets teams of these years were led by players such as Jeff Ruland, Greg
Ballard, Jeff Malone, Rick Mahorn, Cliff Robinson, Bernard King and Moses
Malone.
The 1990's were difficult years for the franchise, as they
