The Kansas State Wildcats compet
The Kansas State Wildcats compete in one of the very best
athletic conferences in the nation: the Big 12. The sports that the Wildcats
participate in include football, basketball, cross country and track, baseball,
golf, tennis, rowing, equestrian and volleyball.
The men's basketball team began competing in 1902, and over
the years has been to 22 NCAA Tournaments. They played the Kentucky Wildcats for
the national championship in 1951. Overall, they have reached the Final Four
four times, the Elite Eight 11 times, and the Sweet Sixteen 16 times.
The Kansas State Wildcats have also captured 17 conference
championships throughout their history.
The Wildcats' teams also participate in an in-state rivalry
with the Kansas Jayhawks, known as the "Sunflower Showdown". In football, the
series extends back to 1902 and has been played continuously since 1911. In
basketball, the schools have played each other since 1907, with the Jayhawks
leading the series.
In football, Kansas State has participated in 13 bowl games,
going 6-7 in them. The school has also claimed two conference championships.
