The University of Louisville Cardinals currently fields 13
women's teams and 10 men's s teams in the Big East Conference. The men's
basketball, football and women's volleyball teams are the most prominent on
campus.
The men's basketball team rose to national prominence during
the tenure of Bernard Hickman. During his 23 years as coach of the basketball
team, the Cardinals never had a losing season. After his retirement, he was
replaced by Denny Crum who would lead the Cardinals to their greatest seasons.
To date, Louisville has made 33 NCAA Tournament appearances
and 14 NIT appearances. Additionally, the Cardinals have won 11 conference
titles and the 1956 NIT.

Although the football team was once out of the spotlight,
that has changed dramatically in the past few years. The Cardinals have made a
bowl appearance every year since 1998, including a win in the 2007 BCS Orange
Bowl. In 2006, the Cardinals also won their first Big East title.
The design of the Louisville Cardinals Fleece: Allover
consists of the U of L logo, football helmets, basketballs swishing
through nets and the Cardinal mascot logo over a red background.
