The University of Clemson fields 19 men's and women's varsity
teams in NCAA Division I. These teams compete in one of the major national
conferences: the ACC.
The Clemson Tigers football team has won 13 ACC championships
as well as 3 Southern Conference championships. Over the years the program has
participated in 29 bowl games, winning 15 of them. Clemson was crowned the
national champion in 1981 after going 12-0 during the season, including a 22-15
victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Orange Bowl.
The Clemson Tigers baseball team has had tremendous
success as well. To date, the Tigers have achieved combined 28 ACC regular
season and tournament championships (most in the conference), 33 NCAA Tournament
appearances, 21 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, 16 NCAA Regional
Titles, 3 NCAA Super Regional Titles, and 11 College World Series appearances.
Furthermore, both the men's soccer and golf teams have won
national championships in their respective sports.
