“The details are not the details. They make the design.”
"No, Ray is not my brother." - Charles Eames
If you love the look of modern decor, the pioneering
modernist industrial designs of Charles and Ray Eames will appeal to you. The
Eames's iconic textile designs translated abstract art into useful, everyday
objects.
Small Dot Black is a quintessentially "Eames" decorator
fabric from a golden age in industrial design. The Small Dot design originated
as the Eames's entry into a textile competition held by the Museum of Modern Art
in 1947. Four designs were submitted - the other three being Dot, Crosspatch and
Circles - but only Crosspatch went into production at the time. The remaining
three designs - Small Dot included - were recently reproduced from archived
drawings with the assistance of Lucia Eames, daughter of Charles and Ray.
This fantastic retro fabric has an irresistible design of
small dots connected by lines. The small dots measure about 1/4" in diameter.
The streamlined colors in Small Dot Black are cream dots and lines over a black
background. This decorator fabric is the reverse side of Small Dot Document.
Small Dot Black by Charles and Ray Eames can be used to make
pillows, wall-hangings, seat cushions, slipcovers, table covers, draperies,
curtains, handbags, garments and more.
