Last week after an alleged two million dollar blackmail plot, talk show host David Letterman shocked his late night audience. Letterman, who is married with a six year old son, began the broadcast of the Late Show with his usual monologue. Once finished he sat behind his desk and said he was glad the audience was in a pleasant mood "because I have a little story that I'd like to tell you and the home viewers as well". Turns out Dave had relations outside of his marriage, more than once. He decided to come clean after a TV worker threatened to author a screenplay and a book about it unless he was paid off. In honor of Dave and the many Top Ten Lists we have all chuckled over. We at J&O have decided to make a Top Ten list of fabric inspired by Dave. Enjoy. 10. New York Taxi

8. The City That Never Sleeps 7. Dollar Bill Fabric 6. Pink Lingerie Fabric
 5. New York Sights Fabric 4. Love Your Lipstick Fabric 3. Language of Love Fabric
 2. Romantic Nights Soiree Fabric and the number 1 fabric inspired by David Letterman at J&O Fabrics is.... Dysfunctional Family Comics Fabric

Centarian Wook Kundor of Malaysia who at 107 years young, is considering divorcing husband #22, Muhamad Noor Che Musa ( 70 years her junior) in search of husband #23, may finally find her soul mate before her time here is done. Sighting concerns of his love for her, and a growing desire to fulfill her forlorness as she moves into her twilight years, Mrs Kundor admits that the insecurities felt in her current marriage are taking their respective toll on her. " I realize that I am an aged woman. I dont have the body nor am I a young woman who can attract anyone." she stated. Muhamad and Wook wed over four years ago when Mr. Musa came to the realization that it was "Gods will" that he take the hand of the one he loved in marriage. Though he admitted feeling somewhat sorry for the aged widow at first, what started out as a respected friendship, turned into a vow for better or worse, in sickness and in health, on drugs or in rehab. Yeah, drug rehab. So was it the drugs that made him tie the knot, or was it the knot that made him start the drugs? This question leads me to the point of it all. After twenty-one attempts at a marriage, the real challenge is not how to get a man, but how to keep him. And while Mrs Kundor could teach us a thing or two on the do s and dont s of getting him to the alter, has she learned enough along her seemingly bountiful journey to school us on how to make a marriage last? Until such a conversation occurs, the design team at Michael Miller Fabric Mills has come up with a list on how to get a husband that is sure to have both men and women laughing and protesting at the same time. Filled with warnings, good advice and a little humor thrown in for good measure, "How to Get a Husband" cotton novelty print by Michael Miller is sure to have you cracking a smile or two at each cartooned image and written caption throughout. Inspired by both the love life of Wook Kandor and the creative minds at Michael Miller, J&O Fabrics has selected this design as our fabric of the week. Complete with over 15 suggestions to bring an end to the quest for your Knight in Shining Armor, "How to Get a Husband" is every mans wish list made manifest.
1. Act bashful. 2. Be cute. 3. Be motherly. 4. Show him that you love housework. 5. Dont argue! He is always right! 6. Dont scold him if he takes a drink. 7. Cook special dishes for him. 8. Dont be over-anxious. 9. Show him that you adore children. 10. Dont be sulky. 11. Avoid that boyish look. 12. Dont be too sexy. 13. When you meet his mother, smile! 14. Dont play the field! Concentrate on him. 15. Play hard to get, but not too hard! 16. And if he is the generous type.....grab him! Sunday July 26, 2009 marked this years 15th Annual Parents Day. Recognized since 1994 and celebrated throughout the United States with award ceremonies, dinners, conferences and communal gatherings, Parents Day was originally created to acknowledge, honor, uplift and support moms and dads in their often overlooked roles in the lives of their children. Targeting, but not excluding the roles of the elders and surrogate parents that exist in many communities, Parents Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the investment, commitment and energy given to the children in the attempt to equip and prepare them for tomorrows world. Often wearing many hats, parents not only take on the responsibility of acting as role models, but as doctors, mentors, nutritionists, educators, therapists, taxi drivers and stylists in the seemingly never ending journey into their childrens adulthood. In honor of Parents Day and all those who play an active and positive role in the life of a child, J&O Fabrics offers a plethora of child themed fabrics and prints as well as a beautiful selection of men and women inspired designs for the provider in all of us. Hats off to our mamas and papas today and everyday! Check out our novelty childrens fabric here. Check out our novelty dad fabric here. Check out our novelty mom fabric here

From the day Michael was born, the stars revealed that he was a child destined for greatness. with a gift for tripping the light fantastic and an angelic voice to match. And ever since the 'King of Pop' met his fate less than three weeks ago, not a day has gone by where I do not see an article surrounding his life and death, hear an interview with one of his many friends and fans, or catch someone speaking about some aspect of his journey that has made him the icon and legend that he will go down in history as being. While I could care less about all the gossip surrounding his final hours and the many conspiracy theories that have surfaced along the way, I will admit, he was truly a testament to the power of one. Whether it was his humanitarian efforts, his knack for creating truly amazing dance moves, his beautiful God given voice, his attraction to the innocence of the youth, or his somewhat delusional yet idealistic vision for world peace and unity, Michael Jackson was a pop culture sensation who not only touched the lives of Americans, but the world over. In ode to the child, the man, and the legacy, I would like to dedicate these selected fabrics inspired by one, shared by many, and found right here in between the colorful isles of J&O. One day he too will sit alongside The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Sinatra and Betty Boop in our fabric row of fame and tribute to some of our most popular entertainers of their time. Though many are born unique and die as copies, Michael Jackson was surely not one of them. My Tribute (found at J&O) A nostalgic print that reminds me of the childhood Michael never had and the innocence of the youth he tried to salvage inside. One of the Jackson 5 greatest hits, "ABC" easy as 123. I like this one especially because it is actually an African print fabric reminding me of Michaels ancestral roots that despite his issues with his own appearance, he never forgot.
"The Wizard of Oz" circa 1939, featuring Judy Garland as Dorothy and Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow. "The Wiz" circa 1978, staring Diana Ross as Dorothy and Michael Jackson himself as the Scarecrow who thought he was stupid....imagine that!
Disco lights, eighties print, dancing girls...need I say more? Shes a 'Dance Machine' and Michael wants to 'Rock With You' all night long. He is the King of Pop with the moves and the tunes to get the party jumping, even now. Compared to the late great Elvis Presley who went down in history as the King of Rock-and-Roll, both became phenomenons of their generation with unique moves that record hitting tunes. Who could forget the collaborations between Michael and Paul McCartney of the Beatles. "Say, Say, Say " what you want about Pauls success, but after 10 months of negotiations, Michael walked away with the rights to a large amount of compositions recorded by the Beatles for a small price of $47.5 million Bubbles??
No, Bubbles !! You remember the pet chimp right? What is white, made its first debut in the Michael Jackson video of 1983 entitled "Billie Jean", and fits like a glove? It is not made of Swavorski diamonds, but maybe sequins will do.
When Michaels video for "Thriller" was released on December 2, 1983, the world stopped what it was doing to watch the 14 minute choreographed horror film homage full of dancing zombies and a very scared Ola Ray. Listed as the most successful music video in the Guinness World Records 2006, "Thriller" was and still is my absolute favorite video of all time. While "Butterflies" was the name of one of Michaels 2001 singles off the "Invincible" album, it is also the name of the insect symbolic with transition. The caterpillar undergoes a long metamorphosis into a butterfly, only to live with its new beautiful wings for a very short time.
Inspired by the craziness Michael must have felt in his loneliness.
At the height of his fame, Michael was worth millions. But, with more money comes more problems. It has been said that money cant by you happiness. I think they are right.
When vegetarians were an anomaly, environmental issues were hardly a headline, and being in the green meant you had money in your pockets, Michael was banning meat from his diet, donating thousands towards global issues and striving to preserve Mother Earth for tomorrows children. Speaking of tomorrows children, who loved the children more than Michael? I know the accusations and talk, but I think in his own sad and idealistic way, he lived through the innocence of the children. His devotion and financial contributions to charities worldwide throughout his life speak for themselves.
Michael loved life and shared his with the world until he made his transition. A misunderstood and troubled man of few words, Michael moved mountains through his music and devotion to his higher purpose; to uplift and unify humanity through song.

A problem faced by orchestras when practicing is the change in sound from when to concert hall is empty to when it is full. Since most concert hall seats have metal bottoms, these serve to reflect the sound produced by the instruments. Even to the highly trained musicians of most orchestras, the change in sound can have an effect on how they play the piece in concert.
The seating in the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Hall - home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic - incoporates a fascinating solution to this acoustic problem by employing fabric. By covering the seat bottoms in fabric the musicians are able to practice in similar conditions to when the hall is full, allowing for a sound that is closer to what they will hear when the performance begins. This simple solution allows the musicians to practice in optimum, concert-like acoustic conditions.
At J&O, we carry a wide selection of music-inspired fabrics. Whether you are a fan of classical, jazz or pop, you'll find a fabric that expresses your preference. Here are some of our amazing music fabrics.

If you have ever been to the Capitol in Washington, DC, the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, or the Statue of Liberty in New York, then you have visited some of the most renowned landmarks in the United States of America. Each sight has its own unique history and effect on the sight seers, leaving each with a memory that will last a lifetime. At the Capitol, visitors can explore the only exhibition in the country dedicated to telling the story of Congress and the construction of the U.S. Capitol. Highlighting rarely seen historic documents and artifacts from around the country, any visitor interested in discovering the inner workings of this great nation are in for a treat. The Liberty Bell is another historic landmark of importance. The bell was adopted hundreds of years ago by the colonial abolitionists as a symbol of the efforts to put an end to slavery throughout America. Also known as the 'chime that changed the world', the ringing of the bell on July 8, 1776 marked the summoning of the citizens of the U.S. to hear the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence by Colonel John Nixon that would unofficially end slavery in the Americas. Finally, there is the Statue of Liberty in New York. Though taught otherwise, Lady Liberty was originally designed in the likeness of a African woman by French historian and chairman of the French Anti-Slavery Society, Edourd de Laboulaye, and was a gift from the French to the United States in honor of the role Black soldiers played in the victory American troops experienced during the Civil War. To this day, the Statue of Liberty is one of the most recognizable icons of the United States and was one of the first glimpses of the land of the free for millions of immigrants coming over from foreign. In honor of our country, its history and its symbolic structures, J&O has selected our affectionately named, American Monuments fabric by Elizabeth Studio, as our new fabric of the week winner. Offering a kaleidoscope of color and historic landmarks. American Monuments is a beautiful and patriotic cotton print for use in a plethora of crafts and one-of-a-kind projects.

Each week we receive tons of letters and emails from customers who have made beautiful crafts, reupholstered old furnishings, and designed unique garments all from the fabric they have purchases from our online store. From hot pink vinyl and black suede cloth to children's novelty cotton and route 66 tapestry, it never ceases to amaze us how creative our customers really are. Take for instance Ms. Yvonne Perry. Yvonne is a freelance writer, editor, author and owner of 'Writers in the Sky Creative Writing Services' by day, but by night she is an artist with a unique sense of color and taste who makes wonderful home crafts for friends, family and a few more folks ready to support this Jackie-of-all-trades. Yvonne sent us an email thanking us for providing her with the perfect sock monkey fabric for her infant bumper pads and crib quilts featured on her flickr photostream below: http://www.flickr.com/photos/randyvonne/page2/ By nurturing her creative imagination and applying the proper training, Yvonne was not only able to turn a fun hobby into a fruitful venture, but save a lot of money at the same time. Why pay for the markup costs of a store bought bumper pad or quilt when you can cut out the middle man and turn those extra dollars into investment dollars for more creative ideas to come. Yvonne, on behalf of J&O fabrics , we'd like to say 'Thank You' for sharing your project with us and all our blog viewers on the world wide web. Keep on nurturing your gifts and encourages others to do so too. We look forward to seeing more!

Madness
Mad"ness\, n. [From Mad, a.]
1. The condition of being mad; insanity; lunacy.
2. Frenzy; ungovernable rage; extreme folly.
- Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary
The arrival of March signals the long-awaited thawing of winter's ice and snow. Birds begin to chirp, buds sprout and gentle spring colors lighten the landscape. As the saying goes: "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb".
In the midst of all this gentleness lurks a recurring madness that blows in with March and builds to a frenetic conclusion in the final weeks of the month. This seasonal insanity is aptly called "March Madness"; among its symptoms are the strong growing weak, the weak growing strong, and constant talk of Cinderella.
The treatments for "March Madness" involve bracket busting, pulse-pounding overtimes and a healthy dose of J&O Fabrics' college team cotton, fleece, vinyl and ribbon. Let's take a look around the country to see the winners of the past weekend's conference tournaments, otherwise known as the "Madness's" preliminary stages.

When we think about the sex symbols of the 1920’s, images of long legged flappers with short bobbed hair doing the charleston and foxtrot to the latest jazz bands in shapeless shift dresses and plenty of publicly applied makeup come to mind. A fashionista of sorts who epitomized the spirit of a reckless rebel with a boyish physique and a girlish charm dancing the night away in smoky jazz houses around New York consume the memoirs of the era simply known as the “Roaring 20’s”. The look and the mood certainly redefined modern womanhood and broke the traditions of earlier years. No longer were rounded figures and older faces, the passé. Instead, grown women who loved to party all night long in youthful glory and tomboyish fashion were all the rage. One didn’t have to look far to see the effects of this contagious fever, on stage and screen. Enter Betty Boop! Betty Boop is known as the first and one of the most famous sex symbols on the animated screens of the 20’s and 30’s. She was a symbol of the depression era and a reminder of the more carefree days of the Jazz Age flapper. In the world of animation, this fem fetal would go down in history as the first cartoon character to fully represent a sexual woman. But she didn’t start out that way. In the early stages of her career, this lovely lady was designed as a human-like dog. That’s right. For those of you who remember her premiere in the 1930 film “Dizzy Dishes”, she was the yet un-named anthropomorphic character with obvious feminine qualities and charm enveloped in a poodle like body. By the time she starred in the 1932 film“ Any Rags”, her floppy dog ears gave way to hoop earrings, her ambiguous form molded into a petite hourglass figure, and her pudgy black nose became the cute buttoned one that accompanied her high baby voice and black finger waved crop that would later become synonymous with the world famous “ Boop-oop-a-doop” girl. Betty’s flapper style and innocent sexuality led to what some have called the “Boop-O-Mania “craze over the years. Fans from far and wide fell in love with her combination of schoolgirl flirtatiousness and womanly maturity. Her short dresses, high heels, contoured bodice and signature garter belt didn’t leave much to the imagination and certainly caught the attention of male viewers who were used to the straight bodied, boyish female fashion of the19 20’s they had grown accustomed to. But while some adored, some also condemned as well. As moralists and public broadcasting systems concerned with sexual content and indecent exposure issues found support from the public, the somewhat risqué Betty Boop began showing far less leg and her décolletage was often hidden by prim buttons. Her lecherous suitors started disappearing from her grasp and soon her limelight was dimmed out by her cute little trouble making dog “Pudgy” and the lovable “Grampy” who helped Betty solve problems with his wacky inventions. As the country saw the rise of yet another world war (WWII), the market for the once popular and in-demand flapper started to fade. Betty Boop’s final film series aired 9 years later with the release of “Yip ,Yip ,Yippy!” "Though Betty bowed out as a headliner in 1939, her popularity remains as intact as her boop-oop-a-doop. Maybe it lies in her sassy independence or the fact that she is the only female cartoon who’s not a foil for a male. Maybe she just came at the right time, when the feminist movement of her era needed her the most…for the cycles of life will surely repeat again. Whatever the reason, Betty Boop still haunts the dreams and inspires the imagination of artists, craftsmen and designers still today. With no limit to the creative well of our minds, everything from Betty Boop bedding and quilts to character clothing and accessories can be found and created. After what seemed like years of patient waiting and anticipating, J&O has come back with some of the latest and greatest themed prints of this historic screen star& siren, just for you! From the in demand “Betty Boop Biker Chic”, an ode to our fem fetal bikers worldwide, to the ever popular “Lucky Ladies”, a great decorative print for casinos and game rooms across the nation; now all her favorite characters and scenes can be relived over and over again for friends, family or even just yourself. With so much history wrapped around her little spit-curled hair, Betty Boop has left her mark on world, her “ Boop-oop-a-doop “ on our tongues, and a space in our hearts.

So you’ve been on our site and looked at 1, 10 or maybe even 100 prints from our vast array of assorted fabrics. You’ve seen some you liked, some you loved and some you could do without. And more than likely, somewhere in between our novelties and decorative fabrics, you caught yourself picturing what a print from the wells of your creative imagination would look like.
Maybe you have a little girl who is turning five, and for her birthday she tells you that she wants to be an astronaut when she grows up. You go out and buy the glow-in -the-dark stars and a mystical space sounds tape to make her night life more adventurous. You collect globes, spaceships and Star Trek figurines in hopes to nurture her passion (until a new one comes along a six), but what she really wants is an image of a little girl that looks like her, steering that infamous space shuttle into the unknown galaxy of ‘Little Hannah’. So you search for the perfect fabric to make the curtains and bedding that would send your girl to the moon with excitement, only to find your search is in vain. In disappointment you shut down your computer, put away the phone book and call off the search; wishing that a magic Genie would come along with the exact print image, in the exact favorite colors and the exact weight that you want so desperately. And while the he is at it, maybe he can create a printed fabric bearing all the characteristics and personality traits of a 1942 Pisces as well. I mean, that was the year you were born, and everyone knows Pisces are the best Zodiac sign of them all. Well, your wish is our command! If you could wish for 3 unique-one-of-a-kind-nobody-has-a-more-creative-imagination-than-you prints, what would they be? Hot Latina Pin-up Girls, TV shows from the 70’s, Tabby Cats and Hound Dogs playing cards? You can see some patterns like this in our Retro Fabric section. We’d like to hear from you, so email us back or reply to this post with your crazy and not so crazy print ideas…you never know what wishes the J&O Genie may grant you!

Now Featuring
Fabric Coordinates!
Here at J&O we're constantly thinking of new ways to help our customers and make their shopping experience on JOFabrics.com simple and as effortless as possible. In case you haven't noticed, J&O Fabrics is currently in the process of adding coordinating fabrics to each type of fabric we carry. Everything from our most popular Cotton Novelties, to our wide selection of Upholsteries, will now be featuring two to six coordinates, in addition to washing tips and J&O's very own fabric dictionary.

Take note that the fabrics we choose as coordinates are not always coordinate sets straight from the manufacturer. Noooo, the coordinates we choose are selected with care irregardless of designer or manufacturer and are rarely apart of a collection. However, in some cases if a certain print is apart of a collection, we make sure to let you know.
Shopping for fabric online is a very different experience than wandering through the cozy aisles of a local fabric store. When at a store, you can see the fabrics' color, feel the weight and place it next to other prints to make a judgment. Relaxing at home on your computer, (or at work), you don't have the experience of seeing the fabric for yourself; feeling its' texture and weight. For this exact reason, J&O is implementing a new idea that we hope will help our customers make decisions about purchasing fabric. Allow us to be your eyes and hands by trusting our selection of coordinating fabrics.
Each fabric coordinate we feature on a given page was selected by walking around our huge store in New Jersey with charts and fabric samples; squinting our eyes, saying hmmm while holding prints up next to each other. . , going through the exact process of a shopper. This is the kind of dedication J&O Fabrics has for its customers.
On the contrary, shoppers typically already have in mind what type of fabrics they need for a particular project. We don't know how someone may be using the fabric they purchase, so on the most basic level, while coordinating fabrics at J&O, we first look for solid fabrics that are exact color matches of a similar weight. We know that upholstery fabric is not always used to upholster furniture, and decorative cloths aren't always used to make curtains. So, with some Home Decor fabrics we may add a dress fabric as a coordinate, to offer range in case you may be making something like a handbag or a hat.
Since we have such a huge selection, we at J&O don't assume that we know our customers' taste. While coordinating, we don't infer that all our customers are daring enough to put apples with oranges, if you know what we mean. Our most important goal is for you to know that there are other fabrics that we carry in the same color range. Many ideas of coordination matter on opinion and level of artistic expression. For example, if a lightweight cotton fabric print is black and white, we'll show you other coordinating fabric prints that are black and white. We won't automatically throw in an upholstery weight hot pink floral that doesn't have a hint of black or white, even though under certain conditions it may coordinate great. You see? Have you ever looked around your house and thought to yourself……I’d love to give this place a new look, but I don’t want to spend a fortune replacing furniture or flooring? We have five inexpensive and easy ways you can freshen up any room in your house simply by adding fabric! 1. Pillows: Pick out a bright fresh color, you can go with something wild, like an animal print, or more conservative, possibly a toile fabric. Pillows are a fun way to add spice to your room. Remember you are not committed to a certain look, pillows are an easy change. If one day you want blue put out your blue pillows, the next day put out your yellow ones! For this section we would recommend looking in the novelty fabric section along with the upholstery fabric and decorative fabric sections. 2. Seat covers: This is the best and easiest way to freshen up your dinning room or kitchen. Take the seat off of your dining/kitchen chairs and staple your new fabric around the bottom of the seat…..and like magic, you have new chairs! You can go with an ultra suede, or maybe an upholstery fabric that blends with your décor. 3/4 of a yard will cover 2 seats. 2 1/4 yards will be enough for 6 seats. We recommended any fabric in the Upholstery fabric section or Decorative fabric section. 3. Window swag: This one is so simple. Just pick out a fun or colorful fabric. Go to your local hardware store, even Target will do. Get 2 hooks, one for each side of the window. Once the hooks are up just drape the fabric from hook to hook and now you have just added a little flare to your window. We recommended sheer fabric, but chiffon is also a nice inexpensive cloth that has an elegant look and feel. 4. Window Shades: This is my favorite. Go to your local hardware store and purchase blackout shades (approx $5.00 per window) and they normally cut to size. Pick out a fabric of your choice and then glue the fabric onto the blackout shade. Now you have custom shades that would normally cost hundreds of dollars. Any of our novelty fabric would be fun along with the upholstery and designer fabrics. 5. Wall hanging: Simply pick your favorite fabric and staple it around a wooden frame that you can purchase at any craft store. This is an easy and low cost way to add artwork to your walls. Recommended fabrics: anything goes in this category. If you want to go a little wild, check out the retro fabrics or you can even go with tropical fabric. Stay tuned for our future blogs for step-by-step instructions on how to create each of the five home décor fabric projects! When it comes to fabric there are many indications of quality, but few are as resonant and recognizable as the one word that serves as the basis for this blog: pima. Cotton is produced in many places and under many names, but pima cotton is one of the varieties which most stands out. Pima cotton and items made with it have a reputation for being of very high quality. What makes pima cotton so special? Part of the answer lies in its strength, attributable to its long fibers. Fabrics with strong fibers produce apparel and home goods that resist pilling and are longer lasting. Pima cotton fibers are also very fine, so more fibers can be spun into the yarn. Therefore, apparel and other goods made from pima cotton also tend to be lustrous in appearance as well as very soft. This particular characteristic of pima cotton also allows it to drape more naturally. At J&O Fabrics we carry an ever increasing array of pima cotton fabrics. These are designer fabrics at discount prices that can be used for anything you have in mind. Our pima cotton fabrics are available in an extensive selection of colors and designs, from dots to floral calicos.
