MLB No-Sew Fleece Pillow Crafts from J&O Fabrics.

From the end of March to the end of September, baseball fans worldwide indulge in Americas favorite past time by setting their hectic lives around games on the tube, making ritualistic visits to the ball park to watch their favorite teams throw fastballs and hit homers, and making custom made gifts for family members and friends.

One such gift is is the ever popular and easy to make no-sew throw made from poly fleece material. Two yards of the standard 60" fabric in your favorite teams name, and another two in a solid coordinating or alternating team print, and you have got yourself a present that will not only bring a smile to the face of the one receiving, but one that will not only serve them well, but last a lifetime too. From the Boston Red Sox and NY Mets, to the Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies, no sew fleece throws are a quick and easy way rep your teams colors in the stadiums or comfort of your own living room.

And what about the leftover remnants? If you can salvage 1/2 yard, you have got yourself enough fabric to make a no-sew fleece pillow to compliment your throw in the most convenient way. Cut your material to the size you desire and then use a pre-made pillow form as your filler. Tie your precut strips around the circumference and you got yourself a perfect pillow for uncomfortable ballpark seats, late nights from drawn out innings, or kicking your feet up. Baseball themed pillows make great inexpensive gifts and home/sports bar accent pieces.

At J&O Fabrics we carry a plethora of MLB and baseball novelty fleece year round for your crafting pleasure. From the New York Yankees to the St Louis Cardinals and every team in between, we have what you are looking for to carry you through the fall and into the World Series all under one roof. Now if we can only convince the heavy hitters to print out some MLB on cotton, we would all feel like hit a dinger!

J&O Fabrics presents: Top 5 tips on washing fleece

TOP 5 ways to make your fleece stay softer, longer.

1. Gather your fleece blanket, along with blankets or sweaters that are similar in color or texture. wash your fleece blanket with fabrics that compliment its softness.

2. Set your washing machine to the delicate or gentle cycle. Allow it to fill up halfway with water before adding anything. Never use hot water or bleach.

3. Sprinkle or pour in your laundry detergent and let it dissolve, creating suds. This will prevent any spots or detergent stains from sticking to the fleece.

4. Insert the blanket and other like items into the washing machine. Using pure laundry detergent will keep the blanket soft and smooth during the washing.

5. Dry your blanket in the dryer on low heat or the air fluff option, if possible. Halfway through the cycle, take out the fleece blanket. Shake it 2 or 3 times and put it back in the dryer. This will allow the blanket to dry completely on all sides. Avoid washing fleece blankets with towels. Fleece material attracts lint balls, which are hard to remove. Add a fabric sheet to the dryer to prevent static clean.

Consumer Savvy Carol: Nurture Your Creativity With J&O.

In these economically uncertain times, our survival skills kick in and our natural response is to cut back, cut out and hold our breath while the nightly news reports on yet another mass lay off of jobs. We join the ever growing population of stressed out worker bees and me-myself-and-I clones in the competitive rat race called 'life', who find truth in the encouraged notion that it is survival of the fittest, with no rest for the weary. It is a delusional and vicious spiral of continuous fear based responses that chip away at the 'reality' of what it means to be alive.

And while this method works for some, it is not the remedy of choice for everyone. There is another group of people who are ready, willing and able to look at the economic challenge and see an opportunity to create and REcreate their life, and help others along the way as well. They are able to turn their stumbling blocks of lost jobs and income into stepping stones, and their obstacles of financial exhaustion, into opportunities. It is amazing how creative we can be when our backs are against the wall.

What better time than now, to nurture all those gifts we carry but have discarded as silly little hobbies from our younger years. What better way to REcreate our circumstances, than to pull out those carpentry books we tucked neatly away for a rainy day read, take a free class in photography at the community college, or unfold those wisely preserved and still stylish designer fabrics and never used Singer machine that you promised yourself one day you would create magnificent fashions with. What better time than now to put down our worries and fears of what tomorrow may bring, and challenge ourselves to creating the future we want for ourselves.

It really is a matter of perspective, and at J&O Fabrics, we strive to make it our business to tempt you with enough eye catching fleece, upholstery, decorative, novelty and organic fabrics to bring out the successful survivor in all of us. Because even if your passion isn't crafting, your creative juices will start to flow in one direction or another. The time is now.

Easy No-Sew Military Polar Fleece Blankets

Military blankets are a great gift for your loved ones at home & abroad this season. And hand-crafted blankets carrying the stars, stripes and emblems of the military branch they represent are especially nice not only during the holidays, but year round.

You don't need to have any sewing skills to create one either. With J&O's wide selection of 100% poly-winterfleece and a pair of scissors, you can make a warm & lightweight blanket for that special someone, or even yourself. Just follow the easy step instructions below and watch your fabric turn into an armor of pride that they can keep warm under when they need it most.

Step One:
Come to J&O Fabrics and pick from a selection of Military fleece fabrics representing the teams you or your loved ones follow. Have a store employee cut the fabric into a 2-4yard length depending on the size of the individual who will be wrapped inside (or 1 yard for a little one).

Step Two:
Wash the fabric with cold water on gentle cycle, or hand wash. Any detergent will do. Lay fabric flat to dry.

Step Three:
Lay fabric out on a large flat surface. Turn one of the shorter ends towards you and smooth out any wrinkles.

Step Four:
Cut a fringe along one short side by making 3-inch deep straight cuts about a 1/2-1 inch apart.

Step Five:
Tie a single knot at the base of each cut strip to complete the fringe along one side of the blanket.

Step Six:
Turn the fleece to the other short side and smooth out the wrinkles. Make the same size cuts a 1/2-inch apart and then tie knots to match the other side.

Step Seven:
Step back and pat yourself on the back. Your completed military no-sew fleece blanket is done! Give as a gift or keep for yourself.

Now wasn't that easy.
