How would you honestly describe your home decor? Bold and inventive or drab and staid. If you chose the latter, then your decor needs an overhaul. Following are four bold, eye-catching decorator fabrics that will add plenty of pizzazz to your home. First off is Flower Power Brown (ato00051). This chic designer fabric will lend attitude and style to anything it graces. Curtains, valances, decorative pillows and more can be made with Flower Power. The same can be said for 50's Mambo Bark Cloth Green (bar00008), with its trippy, 1950's Havana vibe.
Shapes Decorative Red (ato00092) and Pop Square Retro (ato00059) and can give any room a retro look. These decorative fabrics might even remind you of all those corny 1950's sci-fi movies.
If your needs tend toward upholstery, then the next decorative fabrics will help. We’ve gotten some great feedback from our Extreme Makeover: Marrero Family Finally and thought we’d take a moment to do some highlights on the rooms you loved the best. The first room we will be focusing on is the walk through living and dining area. As you were able to see in our last write up, yards of our Camel Cotton fabric dressed the front and side windows of this fabulous area of the house. From the time you walk in thru the front door, you are met with an open and airy look and feel. The house itself suddenly seems longer because there are no dividers or walls separating the living, dining or kitchen areas. No obstacles block your walkway, and the same soft flowing material garnishing the windows along the way, create a reserved yet inviting stream of sunlight into an already brightly lit area. Our White Suede fabric wrapped around the cushioned base and backs of the dining room chairs offer an additional luxury to the dining experience. Don’t let the light color and fabulous look fool you. The fact that it is created with a polyester also makes it very resilient, quick drying, and easy to wash. The feeling is harmonious and unifying. And with such a big family, the décor of these rooms together is just the right combination for making a house feel like a home. This is a great area not only for living, but entertaining as well. Holidays, football season and big family breakfasts will never be the same when gathering in this welcoming space. Even the Marrero family’s Fen Sui artist friends will find its free flowing layout quietly appealing. No Sew Sewing
What to do with fabric if you DON'T sew.
Is there even such a thing as no sew sewing???? Did you know that if you don't know how to sew, or don't have the patience to get out the old sewing machine, there are actually ways to attach fabric to another fabric without threading a needle? If you've only seen the thin strips of Stitch Witchery at your local drugstore, thats only the beginning.
There are all kinds of no sew products out on the market now. There are items such as fusible webbing, spray adhesive and fabric glue. For example our Heat N' Bond Iron-On Adhesive will give instant results without a lot of fuss.
Typically if you're making a garment, there's no easy way to get around sewing. For example, you probably will have a hard time making a prom dress without sewing, but if you're just making simple curtains etc., there are sewing alternatives.
Here are a few ideas for the budding craftmasters!
- Hem pants without a visible stitch
- Make quick repairs
- Decorate Hat Boxes/ Shoe Boxes
- Make homemade greeting cards
- Create and Attach Appliques
- Fuse Trims to Fabrics
The possibilities for no sew sewing can be as limitless as your imagination and creativity. Log on to our upcoming Notions and Sewing Accessories Section and explore all of our "no sew" possibilities.

When it comes to fabric there are many indications of quality, but few are as resonant and recognizable as the one word that serves as the basis for this blog: pima. Cotton is produced in many places and under many names, but pima cotton is one of the varieties which most stands out. Pima cotton and items made with it have a reputation for being of very high quality. What makes pima cotton so special? Part of the answer lies in its strength, attributable to its long fibers. Fabrics with strong fibers produce apparel and home goods that resist pilling and are longer lasting. Pima cotton fibers are also very fine, so more fibers can be spun into the yarn. Therefore, apparel and other goods made from pima cotton also tend to be lustrous in appearance as well as very soft. This particular characteristic of pima cotton also allows it to drape more naturally. At J&O Fabrics we carry an ever increasing array of pima cotton fabrics. These are designer fabrics at discount prices that can be used for anything you have in mind. Our pima cotton fabrics are available in an extensive selection of colors and designs, from dots to floral calicos. You may recall having read the phrase "designer fabric" in the fabric descriptions at our online fabric store or in our blogs. Have you ever wondered exactly what we are referring to with that phrase? For us designer fabric conveys two meanings. First of all, we usually qualify those fabrics which come from premier fabric companies as designer fabrics. Novelty print fabrics from such companies as Alexander Henry, Robert Kaufman, Timeless Treasures, Shamash and Sons, Michael Miller and others are truly designer fabrics of excellent quality. Second, we also use the phrase "designer fabric" to describe fabrics that are attributed to specific designers. Some of the designers that are represented at our online fabric store are Dan Morris, Lloyds and Barton and Patrick Lose for Timeless Treasures, E.M. Hordyszynski for Michael Miller and Mary Engelbreit for Cranston. If there is a particular designer you are interested in, just type in their name in the search box and select "All words" in the search type box.
