With most of the NFL’s teams beginning training camp around now, our long football hibernation is coming to an end. That means that very soon, each team’s fans will once again have an opportunity to don their most ridiculous costumes and makeup, and head out to the stadium with hope in their hearts.

With the World Cup dominating sports headlines for the past weeks - and for a few more to come – the devoted NFL fan might be experiencing a bit of withdrawal until the pre-season begins. While soccer has claimed the moniker of “the beautiful game”, football prides itself on being more… rustic. With that in mind we’re counting off a list of twelve of the craziest NFL fans you’re likely to see and their shabby inventive costumes. You may recognize some of these characters, a few of whom have obtained a modicum of fame (or infamy, depending on who you root for). You may even recognize yourself reflected in the outlandish devotion of these fans.

The Supreme Court’s Ruling Against the NFL: Good for Fans? Good for NFL Fabric?
American Needle v. NFL
In a decision with far-reaching consequences, the Supreme Court has ruled unanimously in favor of plaintiff American Needle in its antitrust lawsuit against the NFL. The origins of the lawsuit stem from 2000 when American Needle lost its contract to make officially-licensed NFL hats when the NFL signed an exclusive licensing contract with Reebok. Throughout the lawsuit’s circuitous course through the court system, American Needle has sustained that the NFL’s actions violated antitrust laws because the league acted as a single entity, while American Needle contended that the league should be recognized as 32 separate teams. In explaining the Court’s decision, Associate Justice John Paul Stevens said: “To a firm making hats, the Saints and the Colts are two potentially competing suppliers of valuable trademarks.”

Top 10 NFL Inspired Quilts.
Well, now that our “Coolest Handmade NFL Craft Contest” is officially over, the J&O; family would like to take this a moment to feature some of the meticulous and beautiful one-of-a-kind quilts that were submitted during our three week event. After all, with over 80 contestants from across the country entering everything from dog coats and baby binky holders, to NFL sun catchers and laced g-strings, what better way to showcase the incredible array of creative energy and talent from our facebook fans, twitter followers and fabulous J&O; Fabrics customers worldwide!
So if you were one of the contestants who submitted a quilt or two, stay tuned, your claim to fame may lie in between the lines our Top 10 NFL Quilts blog. J&O Fabric Store Family Top 10 “Coolest Handmade NFL Crafts”
There is not a day that goes by that someone does not call in, fax in, email in or order in, for some of our NFL team fabric. Whether it is cotton, vinyl, flannel or fleece, there is an idea waiting to be crafted, and just any old fabric wont do. From warm no-sew throws and quilts for loved ones overseas, to Super Bowl Sunday table spreads and cute team themed gifts, the stretch of the imagination is as long as a football field and many more times creative.

Coolest New Orleans Saints Crafts from NFL Craft Contest
Back in January 2010, the creative marketing team at J&O; Fabrics ran a “Coolest Handmade NFL Craft” contest in honor of our NFL players and fans, as well as our love for the game itself.
After 3 1/2 weeks and over 80 entrees, almost every team in the NFL was represented and rooted for, including an array of Saints and Colts crafts.
