We have elaborated a quick guide to which of our fabrics are machine-washable and which are to be dry-cleaned only.
Despite the great variety of fabrics we carry, most of them share some basic components that determine if they are washable. For example, our flannel and novelty fabrics are 100% cotton and thus machine-washable. That is not to say that all 100% cotton fabrics are washable; we carry many 100% cotton decorative drapery fabrics and bark cloths which are to be dry-cleaned only. Therefore, if you have doubts please contact us.
Our other machine-washable fabrics include broadcloth, fleece, twill, denim, poly-lin and poly-crepe, as well as our poly-satins such as mystique satin, l'amour satin and crepe-back satin. Be aware, however, that slipper satin is not machine-washable. Chiffon, georgette and organza are washable if made from polyester. Acrylic based fabrics are machine-washable if they do not include rayon or other dry-clean only fibers.
The following are some examples of our machine-washable fabrics.
The majority of our fabrics are not machine-washable and should only be dry-cleaned when necessary. This includes virtually all of our decorative and upholstery fabrics and a few of our dress fabrics as well. Therefore, our bark cloth, chenille, faux fur, tapestry, velvet, taffeta, silk, velveteen, tweed, ultra-suede and suede cloth fabrics are to be dry-cleaned only. Also, fabrics with rayon fibers should be dry-cleaned.
Besides machine-washable and dry-clean only fabrics there is a third category of fabrics that cannot be tended to by either method. This category includes lamé, vinyl, textilene, netting, tulle and outdoor fabrics.
We hope this brief guide will serve to orient you as to which fabrics are machine-washable, which are dry-clean only and those for which neither method is an option. * #
